Beginner Guide: Your First RC Drift Car

Getting into RC drift is easier than ever. Here is the fastest path from unboxing to counter-steer.

1. Pick a chassis

Start with a proven RWD platform. Yokomo YD-2 and MST RMX are the two most-supported chassis at LA-area tracks.

2. Electronics that matter

A gyro is not optional. Neither is a fast digital steering servo. Skip the "combo" versions; buy separates.

3. Tires

Most SoCal tracks run PVC pipe tires. Ask the local shop what compound they mandate before buying.

4. Practice, then race

Hit an open practice night, tape lines on the floor at home, and get comfortable steering out of the throttle.
